Reducing Fashion Waste

Have you ever looked at that old t-shirt at the back of the drawer and thought: “What else can I do with this other than discard it?”

Well, believe it or not, that t-shirt could be the key to the next revolution in sustainable construction!

Here’s a surprising fact: Europe discards 4 million tons of fabrics annually.

But what if I told you there’s a way to turn this “waste” into something incredibly useful? That’s precisely what Clarissa Merle, a visionary French architect, is doing.

Clarissa created FabBrick, a pioneering initiative that turns old clothes into eco-friendly bricks. The process is fascinating: first, the fabrics are shredded into fine fibers.

Then, these fibers are mixed with an eco-friendly glue made of plant materials in a ratio of 80% fabric and 20% glue.

Each brick is made with material equivalent to 2-3 t-shirts. Yes, you read that right – your old t-shirts can become part of a building!

But we don’t stop there. FabBrick is not just producing decorative bricks or furniture. There is ongoing research to develop structural bricks for large constructions.

Imagine, one day, seeing entire houses erected from recycled clothes. It’s not just sustainable, it’s revolutionary!
